Cathryn specialises in complex commercial and corporate disputes. She acts for clients across a range of industries, including financial services, engineering, construction, sport, and real estate. She has particular experience working for clients in the energy and resources sector, and in conducting complex international and domestic arbitrations.

Cathryn is also a core member of Mallesons’ Climate Litigation practice.

  • ACICA arbitration: acting in ACICA arbitration relating to disputes arising under a long-term gas supply agreement.
  • ASX 100 energy company: providing strategic advice in relation to threatened litigation by a shareholder regarding the Board's consideration of climate related matters in key business decisions.
  • Consolidated Minerals Pty Limited: acting for Consolidated Minerals Pty Ltd against the Minister for Mines and Petroleum regarding the calculation for royalties payable to the State of Western Australia.
  • Mining company: acting in RIAR arbitration (formerly the IAMA Arbitration Rules) for a mining company in relation to two mining earn-in and joint venture agreements for the exploration and development of critical minerals, as well as associated Supreme Court proceedings.
  • Star Entertainment Group: acting for The Star in the Review of the Star Pty Ltd by Adam Bell SC, and the External Review of the Queensland operations of The Star by Robert Gotterson AO KC.
  • Avis Budget Group: Obtaining a favourable judgment and costs on an urgent application for an injunction on behalf of Avis Budget Group, in relation to the termination of an agency contract.
  • Mining construction client: acting in relation to the client’s crisis response to a major industrial incident at a mine site in remote Western Australia.
  • ASIC investigations: acting for a major bank in relation to notices issues by ASIC, acting for company directors in relation to Ponzi scheme investigations. 
  • Defamation: acting for mining companies and directors in relation to defamatory statements on online forums.
